Huh? Sit tight, we’re gonna give you the lowdown on making the most of face oils.

Face oils can work all sorts of wonders for your skin. They can unclog pores, protect against nasty free radicals, banish fine lines and boost the power of your moisturiser. Face oil also makes a great primer for makeup and won’t strip skin of natural oils.

WHAT SKIN TYPES DO FACE OILS SUIT?

Most face oils are plant based and use natural ingredients. This means they can suit oily skin,  combination skin, extremely dry skin and acne prone skin. Even the sensitive skinned among us are likely to find a face oil that delivers a beautiful healthy glow instead of irritation.

What’s the deal with putting oil on skin that’s already oily? Sounds disastrous. Surprisingly, face oil actually beneficial for oily skin. Often oily skin issuper dehydrated, it becomes oily due to an overproduction of sebum. This usually happens when we’re over cleansing and stripping back the skins natural oils leading to dehydration. Our skin then produces more sebum to try and compensate so the oily cycle continues.

When we apply face oil, it gets to work by actually dissolving build up of sebum, grease and make up. It does this without stripping the skin of it’s natural oils, putting a stop to the cycle. Oily skin, rejoice!

FACE OIL HELPS DELIVERS SERIOUS HYDRATION

Face oil and moisturiser are a dynamite duo. Face oil gives moisturiser an extra boost, so applying oil after your moisturiser helps deliver the actives into the deeper layers of the skin.

Ready to getonboard with face oils? Here’s a few Do’s and Don’ts to the make the most of your skin’s new bestie.

DO EXPERIMENT WITH PLANT OILS

While we love essential oils, they’resuper potent and can cause skin irritation if not applied correctly. Steer clear of any risk to your skin and instead enjoy benefits of essential oils aromatically through a diffuser. On the contrary, plant oils are gentler and safer but still deliver a nutrient rich hit your skin will thank you for. When it comes to plant oils, there’s so many to choose from; we’re seriously loving exotic ones like pomegranate and blueberry (oops! did we just give something away!?). Better still, plant oils suit whole range of skin types so don’t be afraid to experiment and discover your perfect match!

DON’T USE HEAVY OILS IF YOU’RE PRONE TO BREAKOUTS

If you’re extremely prone to breakouts,  steer clear of heavy oils that will clog your pores, such as coconut oil. Heavy oils will sit on top of your skin for hours. Try experimenting with face oils containing ingredients that sink straight in, like jojoba and squalane oil.

DO USE FACE OILSWHILE YOU SLEEP

Want to pack a big punch with your face oil? Apply it at night. The oils works to deeply to nourish and repair your skin, all while you’re getting your zzz’s. Just make your night time oil a light one, like grapeseed oil, or you can expect a stained pillow case in the morning!

DON’T DIP YOUR FINGERS IN

Steer clear of dipping your fingers into the jar of face oil. Use a dropper instead and avoid contamination.

DO USE SPARINGLY

You don’t need to go overboard when applying face oil. 3 - 4 drops is enough, any more than that and you’ll end up looking like an oil slick.

DON’T RUB FACE OIL ONTO THE SKIN, PRESS IT IN

How you apply your face oil is super important. Slapping it on and rubbing it in won’t give the oil the best chance of absorbing properly into the skin. Instead, put a few drops into your hand, warm it first, then gently press it into the skin.
